When Trevor Eaton came to UT, he had no idea that his educational path would lead him to one of the most reputable drug companies in the nation. After entering the college’s professional division in Fall 2012, however, he gained a sense of direction about where a career in the pharmaceutical sciences could take him. Trevor, a B.S. in Pharmaceutical Sciences student whose major is pharmacology/toxicology, earned a sought after paid internship at The Harvard Drug Group that allowed him to use what he had learned in pharmacology, toxicology, and chemistry courses at The University of Toledo.

Trevor’s internship at The Harvard Drug Group involved product analysis for the sourcing department. He helped the company gather information about products they were considering carrying and updated their databases with information about the allergens, ingredients, dosage forms, and safety of the products they carry. Trevor credits his courses and professors at UT with preparing him for this type of analysis. “Having a knowledge of the molecules and products as well as knowing some of the toxicity and regulatory information from my coursework helped me in my internship,” he said.

During his internship, Trevor was able to learn from people in different departments about sourcing, sales, quality assurance, and regulatory affairs. When he graduates in December 2013, he will take a full-time position at The Harvard Drug Group, and he is excited about the opportunity.

“A smaller company like Harvard has always been focused on serving the public by trying to have the lowest prices and always keeping stores that sell their products stocked with items customers need,” said Trevor. “I am very fortunate to get a great job opportunity to start right out of college, and I plan on using this job to build my reputation in the industry and work through the ranks.”

Trevor’s internship was a great way to demonstrate his knowledge and get his foot in the door at Harvard Drug. He plans to complete a master’s in business administration in the future.

“Without the education that I got and the internship I completed, I would have a lot more questions about what I would do once I graduate. The BSPS internship I completed was one of the best opportunities and has really jump-started my career and goals in life,” said Trevor.

“The BSPS program is a great opportunity for students, with so many different majors that encompass pharmacy. The entire pharmaceutical industry is huge and continuing to grow and needs more professionals that have experience and degrees like the ones that UT offers.”
